I always hear that the value of a car drops by a percentage the second you drive it off a lot of the dealership. This is the case for brand new cars. How much does it actually drop, why does this happen, and is there actually truth to this?

I think it is something like 5 to 10%. I will have to ask my uncle. He works at a dealership. I know there is a number on it but it can shift depending on who is selling the cars.

I hear it's about 50%, becuase by then it's classified as a "used" car, since you're technically using it, and there's no real grade for use levels. So dealerships don't want a car that was "used" since everyone wants a new car and such.

That's why cars are a bad investment unless they're classics, or hard to find/fix. Even Lamborghini's don't hold up in sales, and why you can get a used one fairly cheap.
