Is Schizoaffective disorder like bipolar syndrome?

I often got these two confused. I had thought that a Schizoaffective disorder is the same as a bipolar one considering the shifts in mood changes, struggles with emotional balance, and all of that. Is this the same or is it entirely different?

Yes and no. A person who has a schizoaffective disorder will be suffering from schizophrenia AND bipolar or depression. It is a mix of the two but can't be given a stern diagnosis of either.

This is spot on. It is a classification that is not considered as severe but still can be as debilitating when it comes to day to day life. This is why it has its own term and set of treatments.
